Pruning includes interior/ exterior crown thinning, dead wooding, canopy raising, pulling back over-extended branches, and removing any crossed/ rubbing branches. Pruning a tree has many benefits. During interior or exterior thinning, branches are removed in a strategic fashion which, in turn, allows more wind to blow through the tree. This process also reduces the fungus Powdery Mildew. No more than 25% of the foliage should be removed at one time. We generally provide this service as a general maintenance, looking for crowded areas, deadwood and cross-overs, while we are in the tree. Deadwood can become very hazardous. If it has been left too long it can fall from the tree and cause damage or personal injury ranging from mild to serious and sometimes fatal. Canopy raising is usually determined by customer discretion, or if the tree is growing into an unwanted area such as over a deck, fence, building, etc.
